What Qualifications Do Marriage Counsellors Have?
"Marriage Counsellor" is a title adopted by a broad range of people with varying levels of training and experience. Some have completed short courses but have no formal university education, some have completed some basic undergraduate degree training, while others have postgraduate degrees.
In our practice all counsellors are not only psychologists who are fully registered with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board, but have completed a four year undergraduate degree in Psychology followed by a two year post-graduate Master's degree which entails additional specialised training in marriage and relationship counselling. In other words they have completed 6 years of full-time university training, in addition to having had postgraduate therapy experience.
Three of the clinical psychologists in our practice have expertise in marriage and relationship counselling: Peter Allen, Suzanne Dang, & Amanda Genetti. They work at the Sydney locations shown below.
